“Our buying power allows us to buy direct from the factories and pass savings on to you, our customers. We guarantee you the best prices in the Hill Country.” —Phyllis Ricks
To our Customers in the Texas Hill Country
On the occasion of our 64th anniversary, the Ricks family just wants to say “thank you” for shopping with us, starting in Del Rio, and since 1980 here in Kerrville. We believe in the Hill Country and are so thankful for being well received by you. We take pride in that.
We started humbly. At the onset, we were a young married couple — World War II vet Philip A. Ricks and Leota Petty, his Del Rio-native bride — who opened a store in her hometown. Neither had a background in the furniture business, but through hard work, determination and our loyal customers, we succeeded.
Thanks to your continued support, as well as to our devoted family and steadfast staff, we have grown to three stores. In April of 2007, the Del Rio store was totally remodeled inside and out. In September 2007, we moved from the River Oaks Shopping Center — where we started with 13,000 square feet, then grew to 22,000 square feet — to our custom built, stand alone building on Sidney Baker, where we now have 33,000 square feet of showroom. Our Eagle Pass location was opened in February 2010.
We are still owned and operated by the Ricks family. While we lost our beloved Philip at the age of 60 in 1983, Leota is not only still with us, she is the Chairman of our Board and at the store every day.
Philip and Leota have three children, Phyllis and Lonnie, who work in the business and Ron who is Executive Vice President-Corporate Services and is Corporate Secretary at Southwest Airlines in Dallas where he resides with his wife Eileen. Their son, Alan, is an architect in Boston, Mass.
Phyllis Ricks, corporate vice president at Ricks Furniture, runs the Kerrville operation. She moved from Del Rio in 1980, when the business opened here. Her son, John Philip Skrumeda, is the store manager, and her daughter, Stephanie Skrumeda, serves as office manager. John and his wife Jeri have three children Makenzie who is attending 4th grade at Nimitz, JC who is starting Hal Peterson Middle School in 7th grade and Mikayla who just graduated from Tivy.
That makes three generations here to help you.
While Lonnie Ricks has plenty of input here in Kerrville — Lonnie is our President, and he and Phyllis are the consummate team, so like-minded that they often share the same thoughts — he works in the Del Rio store, with his son-in-law, Philip George. His son, Ryan Ricks, works in Eagle Pass. Lonnie and his wife Liz and their daughter Michelle and husband Philip George with their children Caden and Tyler live in Del Rio. As do son Ryan and his wife Julie. Their daughter Christel and her husband Lars Gustafson and daughter Grace live in Sweden.
The Ricks family feels our people do make the difference. We have 60 employees in our three stores. Ronnie Osteen, our Del Rio manager has been with us for 39 years. Cecilia Diaz came to us as a DECA high-school student, 36 years ago. A number of our Kerrville team has been with us for years. Our long-serving sales staff includes Jeanette Ricks, Paul Wheat, Encarnacion “Junior” Morales, Bubba Kelly and Jonathan Taylor. Jonathan’s mother, Jan Taylor, works in the office, as does Mandy Sanders. Ruth Rawlins keeps the store looking nice and clean.
We make daily deliveries all over the Hill Country. Whether you buy one piece of furniture or a truckload, you’ll pay the same nominal charge for careful delivery and set up by our Kerrville people — Jacob Cruz, Agapito Cruz, Ernest Bazan, Justin Flores and Ryan Butler.
Our employees share our passion for customer service. Each one takes pride in giving you, our customers, the best service possible. As we could not have succeeded these past 64 years without you, we couldn’t have made it without our team’s efforts.
We carry Sealy, Stearns & Foster, La-Z-Boy, Ashley, Broyhill, Vaughan-Bassett, Ty Pennington and Aspen. We are especially proud of the lovely new line from the Down Home collection of Paula Deen. Do drop in and take a look. We think you’ll agree this line is especially nice.
Once again we thank you Kerrville and the Hill Country.
